From Lisbon take the A1 Norte-E80 motorway towards Coimbra OR
From Porto take the A1 Sul-E80 towards Coimbra.
At Coimbra take Exit 13 onto the IP3 North towards Viseu/Guarda.Turn off at Exit 13, onto the IC6 towards Arganil/Oliviera do Hospital/Covilhã. Watch out for it otherwise you may miss it. Drive for several miles until you come to a roundabout where this road more or less automatically becomes the N17.Follow the N17 heading towards Oliveira do Hospital. You will go through several towns. Look for Venda da Galizes and upon arrival turn right at the traffic lights onto the EN230 towards Covilhã. Drive down the mountain for 15 minutes until you come to Ponte das Tres Entradas. Turn left at the bridge towards Alvoco das Varzeas. Drive for 4 km and look for the Quinta da Moenda sign on the righthand side.

From Britain, Holland or Belgium

One enters Portugal and on the IP 5 you bypass Guarda on the left heading for Celorico da Beira.
!!! Just before you get to Celorico keep a look out for the turnoff to Coimbra and the EN 17 !!!
You will enter the edge of Celorico and come upon a roundabout. Go 3/4 way around it, thus effectively turning left. A little way further is a road turning left again. Take this and drive down the hill for approx 100 m to turn right onto the EN 17 towards Coimbra. You will drive through many little villages and pass the turnoff left to Gouveia to eventually reach the big town of Seia lying left, on the slopes of the Serra da Estrela. Nearing Seia one will come to two roundabouts one after another. At the first one take the 2nd exit (thus straight ahead, on to the 2nd one) At the second one takes the first exit (thus straight ahead past the petrol station and up the hill) towards Coimbra.
From here you drive towards Oliveira do Hospital (approx 14 km). Nearing there you will pass the big smoky wood factory on the right, then another Lidl on the left. Carry on straight ahead. Another 500m further is a turnoff to the right to Oliveira do Hospital, DO NOT TURN THERE but carry on straight for another 5km until you see a sign left to Avo and Covilha (N 230). Follow this road through Vila Pouca da Beira. In Ponte das Tres Entradas you cross the bridge and turn off left to Alvoco das Varzeas (still on the N230 direction Covilha). After 3,5 km there is a sign Quinta da Moenda on your right. Follow the small road to our house, down by the river.
