Our 18th century Watermill estate set in the 'green heart' of Central Portugal within the beautiful Estrela and Açor mountain ranges.

We invite you to spend your holidays at Quinta da Moenda, near to the village of Alvoco das Varzeas, in a region where mass tourism is an unfamiliar word. This beautiful holiday retreat, dating from the 18th century consists of a Watermill, an Olive Mill which has been beautifully restored into the English owners family home and an old Distillery which has been converted into 5 self-catering holiday apartments for rent. The mill estate lies between the lofty Estrela and Acor mountains beside the Alvoco river. The river Alvoco rises almost 2000 metres up in the Estrela range and its crystal clear waters cascade and flow down to the village of Alvoco das Varzeas, 300 metres above sea level.

We are situated in a unique part of Portugal: the Beira-Alta, where nature still goes on its own way, where the air and the rivers are still clean and pure, where the friendly inhabitants still live following the old traditions and where you still meet shepherds with their sheep, donkeys pulling carts or women balancing the fruits of the fields or fire-wood on top of their heads.
